Dice Tray 2.01 - Walnut With Black Lining

Elongated Octagonal Dice Tray - v. 1.0

I toyed with calling this an "irregular" octagon. Okay, because I have a lot of respect for my readers, I will concede: Technically this is a "regular" octagon because all of the interior angles are 135 degrees. However, colloquially, it appears "irregular" insofar as it is a polygon that does not approximate a circle, but rather approximates an oval or ellipse. I settled on "elongated" as it adequately describes it. Everyone on board with my pedantry?

Dice Tray 2.0 - Cherry and Royal Blue

I received a custom order on Etsy for another dice tray. The customer requested cherry wood and a blue lining. The design is identical to the Black Poisonwood Dice Tray that I've already posted about. This customer has a good eye for color; the rich cherry wood goes beautifully with the royal blue felt.

General Finishes: Rosewood Stain

So, I generally have been on record as being not exactly pro-stain; however, I have used it in the past with postiive results. Also, I got a custom order recently that requested this stain be used, so I figured it was a good excuse to snap a few pictures to demonstrate what exactly this kind of stain does.

Barn Wood

Barn wood is sort of "trendy" (I think... I don't really notice trends until they're a good six months old). Basically, barn wood is whatever wood formed the exterior of a barn, was ripped off of that barn, and finds its way into your woodshop. More details after the jump.

Let your geek flag fly

The guy who I built this wine rack for commissioned me to build him a dice tray, which, I learned is a enclosure for containing rolled dice. It's used in tabletop gaming, and it turns out that there are lots of places that sell these things. This one is made of a tropical wood called black poisonwood, or chechen, and the bottom is lined in red felt. More info after the jump.

This is a material called Chechen, but it also goes by Black Poisonwood, which is an order of magnitude more badass, so we're gonna go with that.
